Ferry commuters could be in for a long wait this weekend. Especially if you don't plan ahead. Friday, drivers were warned by the state ferry system that vehicle traffic departing the Anacortes terminal were experiencing a 2- 3 hour delay, and vehicle traffic departing the Edmonds terminal was delayed 90 minutes.Also Friday, all advanced reservation spaces from Keystone are full until the 9:15 p.m. sailing. From Port Townsend - all advance reservations spaces are full until the 10:15 p.m. sailing.
Limited standby spaces are still available for all sailings with a one hour advance arrival advised. Walk-on space is available.
Meanwhile, holiday celebrations will also tie up ferry traffic this weekend. Drivers are being warned to expect traffic delays Saturday in Kingston because of the annual parade. That traffic will back up the 12:05 p.m. and 12:55 p.m. afternoon sailings from Edmonds. It will also affect the 12:50 p.m. run from Kingston.
Travelers heading to the San Juan Islands this holiday weekend might want to consider walking on the ferry instead of driving. That's because the state ferry system is offering free overnight parking at the Anacortes terminal from now throuhg 11:59 p.m. Monday night.
Vehicle traffic will currently encounter an estimated 2 to 3 hour wait departing the Anacortes terminal.
