Double Fatal Crash Near Orting
NEAR ORTING - Police are investigating a deadly crash on Orville Road near Orting. It happened early Thursday morning.

Pierce County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ed Troyer says the driver, a 41-year-old Pierce County man, lost control of his Blazer. The vehicle hit gravel and a rock and rolled several times. He was thrown from the car along with his passenger, a 37-year-old Pierce County woman. Troyer says neither were wearing seatbelts.

Troyer says the driver was talking at the scene and told emergency workers there was a passenger and they needed to find her. The driver was rushed to the hospital where he died. Emergency crews and a K-9 unit searched the area and soon found the passenger who had died at the scene.

The accident scene has been cleared, but there are broken branches on the side of the road where the car ended-up.

Troyer says alcohol or drugs may have contributed to the crash. He also says the car was going at a high rate of speed.

Neighbors weren't surprised the crash happened in that area. They say there have been other crashes on that stretch of road recently.
