SEATTLE -
The westbound closure of I-90 is quickly approaching and the DOT is urging drivers to change their travel habits now. Starting Monday, July 6 all westbound lanes will be funneled to the express lanes.
During that time crews will be replacing aged and worn expansion joints on the westbound bridge and center roadway. The DOT says drivers may face some of the worst congestion ever across Lake Washington.
Some traffic engineers predict delays of an hour or more between Issaquah and Seattle. Transportation officials say your best bet to beat delays is to work from home, avoid crossing Lake Washington or travel very early in the morning.
The DOT is hoping to have the work done by July 20, more than a week ahead of schedule.
Seattle Parks and Recreation Department spokeswoman Dewey Potter said the city has no obligation to conduct a State Environmental Protection Act review prior to hosting a one-time event on city property.
