Museum of Flight Dedicates Statue of Local Astronaut
Michael Anderson will greet more than 100,000 schoolchildren each year, now that he is at the entrance to the Museum of Flight.

A slightly-larger than life sized statue of Anderson was dedicated at the museum Friday.

Anderson grew up in Cheney, and graduated from the University of Washington.

He became an astronaut, and died when the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated over Texas in 2003.

Friends and family say Anderson was dedicated to education, and would enjoy being the first thing children will see when they step off school buses.

The statue is a duplicate of one that Spokane erected in 2005.
