MOUNT VERNON -
Mount Vernon Police have determined that Wednesday morning's death on Interstate 5 was self inflicted.
Detectives were able locate family who identified the victim as a 23 year old Mount Vernon man. He did not have a permanent address and was staying with various family members.
He has a history of being despondent and a witness confirmed seeing a man standing near the railing of the viaduct. The witness turned away briefly and when he looked back the man was no longer there.
Initial medical reports indicate the victim sustained injuries consistent with a fall. An autopsy will be conducted to confirm the cause of death later this week.
Just after 12:00 a.m. Wednesday morning a driver called to report a body lying in the road. Authorities located the victim near northbound I-5.
