A 15-year-old Bonney Lake girl, suspected of stabbing a 13-year-old girl, appeared in juvenile court on Wednesday in Tacoma for her arraignment. The 15-year-old's attorney entered a not guilty plea. According to the judge, the girl will stay in custody and a competency hearing will be held July 1st.
A Bonney Lake Police Department spokesman says the stabbing happened Saturday night in the 5300 block of South Island Drive in a Bonney Lake neighborhood. The victim was taken to a local hospital. She has been released and is recovering.
Police say witnesses identified the suspect as a 15-year-old girl and that the stabbing may have been over a boy. Her classmates are shocked by the allegations. Student Kaylie Mills says, "I did a volleyball camp with her and she seemed like the sweetest girl I've ever met and she just doesn't seem like the type of person who would do that."
A Sumner School District spokeswoman says it's their understanding the two girls involved go to Bonney Lake High School and Lakeridge Middle School. The district is working with the police and counselors are available for students.
