SEATTLE -
The National Weather service is issuing a heat advisory for the Seattle-Everett-Tacoma area today.
The advisory will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday, but temperatures will then drop as cooler Pacific air moves inland.
Yesterday, Seattle and Olympia saw record-high temperatures as a weather system kept hot air flowing into Western Washington from east the Cascades.
The National Weather Service in Seattle says the temperature hit 89 degrees at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday.
The previous June 3 record of 87 was set in 1978.
At the Olympia airport, the temperature also hit 89, tying the June 3 record set in 1978.
Forecasters also say it will be sunny and hot in Eastern Washington until the end of the week.

VERY WARM CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST IN THE SEATTLE-TACOMA-EVERETT AREA THROUGH EARLY THIS EVENING. AFTER A WARM START THIS MORNING...HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL TOP OUT AROUND 90 DEGREES.
THE WARM SPELL WILL ABRUPTLY END THIS EVENING AS MARINE AIR SURGES INTO THE AREA. TEMPERATURES ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY WILL BE NEARLY 20 DEGREES COOLER THAN THIS AFTERNOON.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE IN HOT WEATHER. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS. CHECK UP ON INFIRM RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS. REMEMBER THAT AREA LAKES AND RIVERS ARE STILL COLD. ESCAPING THE HEAT BY JUMPING INTO A COLD LAKE OR RIVER CAN LEAD TO DEATH BY HYPOTHERMIA OR DROWNING.
