Bellevue—
Your wedding day is supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life, but the days leading up to it can be stressful. You have to book a venue, find a dress and many hire a DJ."We wanted a local company and we came across this website for 'A Solid Gold Sound' in Bellevue. I called and they seemed very professional over the phone. They had a guarantee a great price and all the services we were looking for so we booked them," says Kevin Gadbois.
Gadbois gave a $540 deposit last November for his wedding in two weeks. Then when he called to confirm last week he says the number was disconnected. The company's website was also down.
According to the Better Business Bureau, the company is now out of business but since December 2008, there have been 72 complaints filed. Most people said the company either canceled on them the day before their event, or didn't give them refunds when they asked.
"It would be nice to get the money back but it would be nice just to stop it so no one else gets taken advantage of," says Gadbois.
Kevin filed a police report in Bellevue, but found out that because the company's headquarters are in Kentucky, he'll have to deal with the Kentucky Attorney General.
We found couples in Maryland and Ohio have also filed complaints against "A Solid Gold Sound".
The BBB says when booking vendors for your wedding, you should always get a referral from a friend or family member, or ask for references and call them. You can also get wedding insurance. It usually runs between $100-$400 dollars depending on the total cost of your event.
