What Do You Think?
Is it appropriate to use the name and image of an infamous teacher-turned-convicted child rapist to promote a local bar?
SEATTLE -
Mary Kay Letourneau, the elementary school teacher convicted of child rape in 1997 after being impregnated by her sixth grade student, is now hosting a "Hot for Teacher" night at a Seattle bar. Her former victim and now husband will be the DJ at the event which happens this Saturday.
LeTourneau served time in prison after being caught having sex with then 12-year old student Vili Fualaau. In 1997 police arrested Letourneau, who was 34 at the time, while she was pregnant with Fualaau's first child. She served 6 months of a 7 year sentence only to get caught having sex with Fualaau just weeks after her release. Five years later she finally got out prison. The two were married a short time later. They laid low for a few years, but now, Fualaau is back in the spotlight as he launches what is turning into a budding career as a DJ.
"I think it's ridiculous that this is happening. I mean they are benefiting and profiting from all of this and it's just outrageous," said one person who heard about the event.
The bar's owner tells Q13 FOX News that he realizes LeTourneau is a convicted rapist but he is defending the event saying that is all in "good fun." Mike Morris owner of Fuel says that LeTourneau has done the time and it's time to move on. "They lived it and they also paid for it," says Morris. "People can look at it the wrong way, but we're doing it for fun. And because she served her time and her sentence and she realizes what she did was wrong, but now she's just trying to live her life."
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with Vili Fualaau
Fualaau tells Q13 FOX News that it is time for everyone to move on, "It's something a lot of people should get over now. It is what it is now. We've been married for four years and have our two kids together and we work our problems out just like anyone else would."
This is not the first time or the second time for this event, in fact it's been going on for about 6 months. Despite the controversy they've gotten a great response.
"It definitely draws a crowd that is interested in meeting Mary and Vili," Morris said. "They come down and when they get to meet her people realize what a nice person she is. She's a sweetheart and he spins great music," said Morris.
The couple met when Fualaau was in the second grade and turned sexual when Fualaau was 12. At the time, LeTourneau was 34 years old, married and had four children. She was Fualaau's teacher at a suburban elementary school.

In the beginning
When she was arrested in 1997, LeTourneau was carrying Fualaau's first child. She was conviced of second-degree child rape and served approximately five months of a 7 1/2 year prison sentence. Several weeks after her release, she was caught having sex again with Faulaau and sent back to prison to serve out the remainder of her sentence.
In 2004, LeTourneau was released from prison and the following year she and Fualaau were married. They now have two children and live in a suburb outside of Seattle.

I am bare impressed with the article I have just read. I wish the writer of www.q13fox.com can continue to provide so much practical information and unforgettable experience to www.q13fox.com readers. There is not much to say except the following universal truth: In any given group of friends, there is always one who never has money to buy his own beer. I will be back.
