Chrysler to shut hundreds of dealerships: Company says it's part of restructuring plan

NEW YORK - On Thursday Chrysler told about 800 dealerships it wants to close shop in a restructuring move. The automaker currently has about 3,200 dealers across the country.

The company told a bankruptcy court it would close about 25% of them which equals 789 dealerships.

Chrysler hopes the move will make the company stronger and more profitable.

The company has already been given $4 billion in government loans and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
