Shooting Rampage Suspect Declared Fit to Stand Trial
A Skagit County judge has ruled shooting rampage suspect Isaac Zamora is mentally competent to stand trial. The ruling came Wednesday at a hearing. Zamora then entered not guilty pleas to 20 felony counts, including six aggravated murder charges. The 28-year-old is charged with killing six people and wounding four others Sept. 2 in a shooting rampage that began in Alger. One of those killed was a Skagit County sheriff's deputy.

Doctors from Western State Hospital testified that Zamora is now sufficiently mentally stable to understand the charges against him and assist in his defense. Prosecutors have until Oct. 6 to decide if they will pursue the death penalty. Defense lawyers will be outlining the reasons they feel the case does not warrant the possibility of the death penalty. He's expected back in court in July.
