Taxpayers in six states may not get this year's tax refund checks until close to Labor Day.That's because the budget crises has affected their ability to write the checks in a timely manner; so checks may be late. The affected states are Kansas, North Carolina, Idaho, New York, Alabama and Hawaii.
- You failed to claim the Making Work Pay credit.
- You received a Making Work Pay credit and an Economic Recovery Payment
- You claimed the home buyer's credit
Investment advisers say, if you typically get big refunds, you're just letting the government use your money all year, interest-free. You'd be smarter to take the money up-front, by having your employer withhold less from your paycheck.
