Another Prius Driver Says Car Sped Up Out Of Control
Another Toyota Prius driver has gotten into an accident after she says the car accelerated on its own.

The driver in Harrison, New York, crashed her 2005 prius Tuesday after she says it sped up suddenly while she was pulling out of her driveway, and caused her to crash across the street into a stone wall.

Federal investigators are now working overtime on both coasts because that accident happened less than a day after a California man says his 2008 Prius suddenly rocketed over 90 miles an hour on the freeway.

While Toyota recalled more than 8 million vehicles to address gas pedals that can become sticky or trapped under floor mats, neither of the cars in these two crashes were on the recall list for the sticky gas pedal problem.

The New York driver's car was recalled over the floor mat problem which causes the gas pedal to get stuck, but police are convinced that is not what happened in her accident.

Toyota is already in damage control mode by fighting off any claims that electronic problems are causing all these issues.

"There's nothing to the allegations of any kind of electronic gremlins in Toyota vehicles, says Toyota Vice-President Bob Carter. "I continue to be 100% confident in the integrity of our electronic control systems."

Toyota also said no new recall is looming for the 2008, or any other models.

Toyota is covering all 2004 to 2009 Priuses under a recall they announced in October related to floor-mat entrapment. And while they advise drivers to take out any removable driver's floor mat until they are repaired, a lot of owners may not know what to do if their car accelerates out of control.

Auto experts say if you find yourself in a runaway car, don't panic and follow these three steps:

#1 Step on the brake hard.

#2 Downshift into neutral.

#3 And pull over and turn off the engine.

Prius owners are also taking to the internet and specifically Youtube to show examples of how to power down the car, or get it to slow down.
