MARYSVILLE—
A terrible collision has put a Marysville ten-year-old in the hospital in critical condition.Police say the girl was riding her bike between two parked cars, when she rode out into the path of an oncoming car. The girl suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.
The southbound car struck her around 4:30 p.m., on 80th Avenue N.E. She was not wearing a helmet.
Collision Investigation Team members are conducting the investigation.
The road was closed for a while as they continued their work, but it has since reopened.
"At this time we have no reason to believe that driving conditions, speed, or drugs or alcohol played any role in this accident," said Marysville Police Commander Robb Lamoureux. "It sadly appears to be that the young girl rode her bike straight into traffic and the driver had no time to react."
"Always remember to wear a properly fitted helmet while riding bikes, scooters, skateboards and roller blades," said Marysville police spokesperson Kirsten Thorstenson. "A great rule of thumb is 'no helmet, no wheels'."
