WASHINGTON D.C.—
A local boy who became part of the national health care debate is visiting Washington D.C. and the offices of lawmakers.Senator Patty Murray told lawmakers the story of Marcelas Owens who lost his mother, Tiffany, in 2007. Tiffany had lost her job and health insurance before she ultimately passed away of pulmonary hypertension. Without health insurance, her family believes Owens did not get proper health care. Tiffany Owens was only 27 years old when she passed away.
Determined to bring something positive out of their loss, the family joined the local fight for health care reform and their story caught the attention of Senator Murray who shared it on the floor of the Senate and at the health care forum.
Marcelas and his grandmother, Gina Owens, headed to D.C. Washington DC to stir up support. Pictures show Marcelas with Senator Murray in her office Tuesday.
Marcelas is there to advocate for the passage of health care insurance reform.
