The car also hit a car in their driveway on S. Columbian Way, where 60-year old Salina Wong sat.
Jason Wong pushed his father out of the way, and took the impact of the car. His legs were severely injured, and one had to be amputated. His father was also inured. Both face more surgeries. Salina Wong was not seriously injured.
Fifty-year old Rodney Dean James remains jailed on $250,000 bail. Police say his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit when his 1998 Corvette spun out of control and pinned the two men. Police found unopened beer cans in James' car and smelled alcohol on his breath, court papers said. James is charged with two counts of vehicular assault.
King County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Amy Freedheim said in charging documents that James was convicted of reckless driving in January -- a charge that had been reduced from driving under the influence.
Wah Wong is the owner - and only employee - of Jade West, a popular restaurant in West Seattle. The restaurant is closed while Wong has surgery and recuperates. A fund to help the family and the business has been opened at Wells Fargo Bank. The fund is called Save Jade West Cafe.
