LAKEWOOD -
Lakewood Police have arrested a fifth person in the deadly Walmart armored car robbery in Lakewood.
Police say they arrested the girlfriend of suspect Marshawn Turpin Thursday evening. Brittney Marie Maas-Baines, 18, is now charged wth rendering criminal assistance and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
According to court documents, police say Turpin used Maas-Baines' car to drive to the Walmart where the robbery and murder of armored car guard Kurt Husted happened. Detectives say Turpin left the car there and met the other suspects who were in another car. Then police say the alleged getaway driver Odies D. Walker, returned to get the car just one hour after the crime.
Police say Turpin hid out in Auburn and Maas-Baines went to pick him up that night. Court documents say Maas-Baines told police Turpin never said anything to her about the robbery. Police say she initially lied to them about not picking up Turpin in Auburn but later said that she did.
Court papers also say that Maas-Baines told detectives during questioning that she had watched media coverage of the robbery and murder with her family, and that members of the family recognized Turpin from the surveillance video released by police.
Maas-Baines made her first court appearance Friday afternoon.
Four suspects all appeared before a judge Thursday afternoon in Pierce County.

Calvin Finley, 34, the man police say shot armored guard Kurt Husted; and Marshawn Turnpin, 20, who police say grabbed the money bag, both face aggravated murder, robbery and assault charges. Tonie Marie Williams-Irby, 42, and Odies D. Walker, 41, face murder and robbery charges. Prosecutors say Williams-Irby worked at the Walmart and planned the heist with Walker and Finley.
Loomis armored car guard Kurt Husted, 39, was shot in the head while leaving a bank branch inside a Wal-Mart in the south Tacoma suburb of Lakewood. The same bullet also wounded a customer. Detectives say surveillance pictures of Finley and Turpin brought in tips that led to the arrests.
Lakewood police arrested two of the suspects Wednesday. One of them was taken into custody during a traffic stop in Fife. Another was busted by a SWAT team during a situation at an apartment complex in Tacoma. Another two suspects were arrested overnight Wednesday by Lakewood Police.

Police say they have recovered more than $40,000. According to court documents, after the robbery Williams-Irby and Walker went on a shopping spree then spent $175 dollars on dinner at Red Lobster. Detectives say Finley hid out at Motel 6 in Fife and Turpin at his girlfriend's house.
Officials say Kurt Husted died at the scene. A Loomis spokesperson says he worked for the company for 16 years. Below is a picture of the victim.

Walmart employee April Adams knew Husted and says; "Very shocking... very, very shocking, very disturbing to see somebody do this. I know times are hard but this isn't fair. Just such a nice guy and very sweet."

A Walmart spokesperson released this statement about the shooting:
"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who were victimized by this tragedy. We appreciate the quick response of local authorities, and we are working with them in their investigation. The store is temporarily closed while police investigate. As this is still a fluid situation, any further questions should be directed to police."

This is the 2nd time I seen the lakewood police department in the last 6 months. If the lakewood Walmart had updated security such as metal dectors maybe this poor 39 year old wouldn't of died. My heart goes out to the Kurt family.

suddenly shopping online and having your identity stolen doesn't seem as big of a risk as going out in public.
