GRAHAM, WASHINGTON - Cops say our next fugitive went to extremes to keep away from the law by faking his own death.

Authorities say they were on to him over an alleged car fraud scheme.

Police says Darrel Kempf is a con man and thief. He ran an auto consignment business in Graham called Triad Marketing. But police say it was little more than a front for auto theft and fraud. They believe he's on the run and in hiding. They hope our viewers can get him off the street.

Take a close look at Darrel Kempf. He's a white man, 51 years old, six feet tall and 215 pounds with graying brown hair and blue eyes. But police say he may have changed his appearance.

Police say Kempf was in the business of buying and selling cars for people.

He allegedly took cars on consignment on his Graham car lot to sell them, then cooked the books and kept the cash.

Leaving alleged victims like Hal Daskam holding the bag. "When he left I ended up owing the balances on all these cars. It came out to about 146 thousand dollars," said Daskam.

Darrel Kempf looks like a pretty honest guy. His alleged victims say, always with a smile of his face, loved by everyone.

Police say that is part of what made him such a great con artist.

He's is wanted for nine counts of first degree theft, two counts of 2nd degree theft and three counts of forgery.

"A lot of people trusted him with their vehicle and lost a lot of money in this case," said Lauren Wallin of Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers.

Police say when Kempf learned police were closing in he took off. His car was found over a cliff in the Pacific Ocean and there were signs he faked his own death. Police believe Darrel Kempf is still out there hiding somewhere in plain sight.
