Two cars collided in the accident which also split one car in half. Two women, a mother and daugher, were in the car unconscious. The younger woman was bleeding from both sides of her neck. That's when Officer Clifton stepped in. She immediately applied pressure to the wound.
Officer Clifton says, "At one point I was wondering if I was pushing too hard, or, you know, you have a lot of things go through your mind when you're on scene there. And all I did was basically put pressure on the pressure points to slow or stop the bleeding until the fire department could take over."
The fire department didn't take over right away since the car was still smoldering with flames. The flames licked at Officer Clifton's feet even as she worked to save the woman.
WMW Host David Rose asked, "So, had you not arrived arrived in 2 minutes and been able to stop the bleeding, do you think she would've made it?"
She replied, "I think if someone would not have put direct pressure on her injury sometime relatively soon, I think there may have been more devastating injuries to her."
The good news is the woman is expected to make a full recovery.
Everett Police Chief Jim Scharf says, "In this particular incident she went a little bit above and beyond, and instinctively, again, just did what was expected, and helped save a person's life, and again I'm very, very proud of her."
Congratulations to Officer Clifton for all her hard work!
